Signs of Spring at Pilgrim
Point Camp
I
put on my snow shoes this morning
and trudged down the lane towards
the Rec Hall to pick up some mugs
and T-shirts for the Rev. Dick Mark
to have at his area's "Camp Sunday".
The snow was heavy on my snowshoes
as the rain and fog was settling on
the deep snow. After picking up a
few items and putting them in a
crate on the porch, I headed toward
the Dining Hall to check on the
temperature in the cooler. (Actually
it's a warmer instead of a cooler
this time of the year. We shut off
the compressor and put a heater
inside to keep the canned goods from
freezing).
On my way back to the car I stopped
by the Rec Hall again to pick up
the crate of mugs and T-shirts and started carrying them back up the lane. After a dozen
or
so yards I stopped to catch my breath and soak in the
beauty of Pilgrim Point in the
winter. I was rewarded with a pair of
Eastern Phoebes calling to each other. They said their
name so it was
-
pheee beeee ... a short pause .... and
then at a slightly lower volume
and pitch from a further
distance -
pheee beeee. This went on for
about five minutes and then another
pair started up from the other
direction and further away -
pheee beeee ....
pheee beeee
What a treasure we were given 51
years ago - a piece of God's
creation to share with each
other and with God's people.
Please make sure you come and
visit ANY time of the year. Just
make sure you bring cross
country skies or snowshoes when
it snows. But the spring wild
flowers will be coming up once
the snow is gone and they make
for a wonderful walk through the
wood. It is indeed something to
behold and needs to be shared
with the people of God.
