Camp   About

David Becker

Senior High Camp

August 1 - 6, 2010

David is directing Senior High Camp for the second time this summer, after having worked at the camp full-time for five seasons.  He is currently the Director of Faith Formation for Children and Youth at Parkway United Church of Christ in Minneapolis.  David believes strongly that children, youth, and young adults have an important place in the life of the Church and that everyone, no matter who they are or where they are on life’s journey, is welcome at Pilgrim Point Camp.

David graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth with degrees in Psychology and K-12 Vocal Music Education.  When he is not working with youth, David’s interests vary from technology to fitness to politics.

July 4 - 9,2010

Hi! I’m Laura Maki; I grew up attending St Paul’s UCC, Henderson and am currently a member of Zion UCC in Le Sueur. I have worked with pre-school through young adults since 1977, as a Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School Leader, Youth Group Leader and have been involved with Pilgrim Point Camp as a counselor, director and work week volunteer for the past 16 years. I have also served as a Girl and Boy Scout Leader and regional camp director for both groups. I have chaperoned numerous scout, school and church trips both in and out of state. I am a member of the Arlington Lions Club and was selected as Lion of the Year for my dedication and service to the club and community and service as co-advisor of the Leo Club.

My husband and I will be celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary this summer and we have five grown children, four who also volunteer at camp and 3 grandchildren.

Roberta L. Peterson Junior High Camp

July 25 - 30, 2010

Roberta Peterson grew up in Shoreview, a northern suburb of St. Paul, and she was confirmed by the United Church of Christ in New Brighton, where she continues to be an active member.  Roberta has been attending camps and retreats at Pilgrim Point for more than 35 years.

Roberta believes that camp has provided an unique and sacred place to connect with God and build Christian community.  Some of her most meaningful and lasting relationships, including the one with her spouse, Neil Otto, began at camp.  She has volunteered as both a counselor and director at Junior, Junior High, and Senior High camps at Pilgrim Point.

This is the second summer she will be directing the Junior High camp and she is, "looking forward to a week of caring Christian fellowship, inspiring faith formation, wonderful worship, and, of course, singing, games, crafts, and s’mores."

Ryanne Underhill

Tenderfoot Camp

June 20 - 23,2010

My name is Ryanne Underhill and I am very excited to be coming back to Pilgrim Point Camp for my 9th summer. I grew up in the UCC church in Austin, MN and while I never came to camp as a kid I couldn't imaging life without it now. I have worked with children and youth in many capacities for the past 15 years, from teaching Sunday school and vacation Bible school, to nannying, tutoring and most recently as a social worker. When I'm not at Pilgrim Point I am working as a therapist providing mental health counseling to adolescents diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness.

September 24 - 26, 2010

I have directed quilt retreats at Pilgrim Point for the past 3 years, June and September. I have a long-arm machine quilting business in Blue Earth, Minnesota and belong to the First Congregational Church in Fairmont, Minnesota . Besides quilting for others, I always have several projects going. This August I'm traveling to Nebraska to direct a "first annual" quilt camp at their UCC camp!

Eric and Marie Ljosenvoor

Music Art and Drama (MAD) Camp

July 4 - 9, 2010

Marie & Eric Ljosenvoor are members of Pilgrims UCC in Maple Grove, MN and both grew up members of their local UCC churches in Maple Lake and Minneapolis, respectively.  Eric has a BFA in Theatre and a license to teach math, which he does at a 7-12 high school in central Minnesota.  Marie has a BA in English and is studying to be a pharmacist.  They met as counselors at MAD camp in 2003 and started directing in 2005.  Their approach is to find the timeless truths in biblical texts and help campers develop a modern version of the stories through process drama and improvisation.  They have also done weekend retreats featuring process drama for churches in Minnesota and are working on a book about the subject.
